And so the Commission decided, by resolution 1993/60 of 10 March 1993, that the situation of human rights in the Sudan should be examined under public procedures and requested its Chairman to appoint a Special Rapporteur to investigate the situation and to report his findings to the General Assembly at its forty-eighth session and to the Commission on Human Rights at its fiftieth session.

The present report is prepared in response to that request. It includes information relating to Commission on Human Rights resolution S-3/1 of 25 May 1994, in which the Commission requested its Chairman to appoint a special rapporteur charged with investigating the human rights situation in Rwanda.
