29. The Technological Innovations Board, an interdepartmental board under the chairmanship of the Under-Secretary-General for Administration and Management, was established in June 1986.

The new structure reflects a clear definition of the authority and scope of responsibilities of the Under-Secretary-General for Administration and Management in relation to each of the functions entrusted to the Department.

At the 5th meeting, on 5 February, the Under-Secretary-General for Administration and Management made a further statement, in which he reminded the members of the Working Group of some pertinent features of the Organization's financial position at the end of 1995 and updated that information as to the position at the end of January 1996.

9. At the 4th meeting, on 21 February, the Under-Secretary-General for Administration and Management made a factual presentation on the financial situation of the United Nations and answered questions posed to him by the members.

142. The Committee also took note of the fact that negotiations with UNIDO were proceeding following a meeting between the Under-Secretary-General for Administration and Management and the Director-General of UNIDO, and reiterated its request that negotiations be concluded as quickly as possible.
