The draft resolution, to which the text of the Convention was annexed, proposed the adoption of that instrument by the General Assembly, requested the Secretary-General to open it for signature and called on all Governments to consider becoming parties thereto.

In that regard, a useful role might also be played for the States parties thereto by the Convention on the Safety of United Nations and Associated Personnel of 1994 and the Optional Protocol of 2005.
