Ms. Astanah Banu (Malaysia), speaking on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement and China, expressed grave concern that unilateral actions had brought negative consequences for developing countries and created additional obstacles to the full enjoyment of all human rights by the peoples of the affected States.

30. Ms. Astanah Banu (Malaysia) said that, although the informal meetings might have been open and transparent, the concerns of many delegations had not been addressed.

Ms. Astanah Banu (Malaysia) said that her delegation had submitted written proposals to the main sponsors of the draft resolution with a view to strengthening and streamlining it by eliminating unnecessary repetition of the language and content of the Convention, but the final text did not reflect the concerns that had been raised.

7. Ms. Astanah Banu (Malaysia) said that, owing to the position of human rights questions in the agenda, draft resolutions on the subject were submitted relatively late in the session and, through no fault of the Secretariat, were produced later than was convenient.

Ms. Astanah Banu (Malaysia) said it was significant that certain members of the European Union, including some former empire builders, had considered it necessary to abstain on a resolution that was based on the principle of the right to self-determination, a principle that was embodied in the United Nations Charter.
31 - السيدة أستاناه بانو (ماليزيا): قالت إن مما له دلالته أن بعض أعضاء الاتحاد الأوروبي، الذين يوجد من بينهم بناة سابقون للإمبراطوريات، رأوا أن يمتنعوا عن التصويت على قرار مكرس لمبدأ حق تقرير المصير، الوارد في ميثاق الأمم المتحدة.

42. Ms. Astanah Banu (Malaysia), speaking on behalf of the States Members of the United Nations that were members of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries, said she hoped that the resolution would once again enjoy the full support of all delegations and that it would be adopted by consensus.
