In that regard, I recall the statement delivered on behalf of President Obasanjo to the General Assembly in September: " We also call for a comprehensive and legally binding global arms trade treaty. " (A/61/PV.18, p. 12) We believe that such a treaty should establish common standards on arms transfers.
وفي ذلك الصدد، أذكّر بالبيان الذي تم الإدلاء به بالنيابة عن الرئيس أوباسانغو أمام الجمعية العامة في أيلول/سبتمبر: " كما ندعو إلى إبرام معاهدة عالمية شاملة وملزمة قانونا لتجارة الأسلحة " . (A/61/PV.18، الصفحة 15). ونعتقد أنه ينبغي لمعاهدة من هذا القبيل أن تضع معايير مشتركة بشأن نقل الأسلحة.

My delegation is gratified by the actions under way between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo undertaken by countries of the Great Lakes region, the Secretary-General, the Security Council, in particular through the United Nations Organization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Mr. Alan Doss, and the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General, President Obasanjo.
