والاتفاقية التكميلية المعنية بالرق لعام 1956 تبطل بالتحديد " أي من الأعراف أو الممارسات التي تسمح لأحد الأبوين أو كليهما، أو للوصي، بتسليم طفل أو مراهق دون الثامنة عشرة إلى شخص آخر لقاء عوض أو بلا عوض، على قصد استغلال الطفل أو المراهق أو استغلال عمله " (المادة 1(د)).

Article 1 (d) of the 1956 Supplementary Convention on the Abolition of Slavery, the Slave Trade, and Institutions and Practices Similar to Slavery refers to “Any institution or practice whereby a child or young person under the age of 18 years, is delivered by either or both of his natural parents or by his guardian to another person, whether for reward or not, with a view to the exploitation of the child or young person or of his labour”.
٠١١- وتنص اتفاقية عام ٦٥٩١ بشأن إبطال الرق في مادتها ١)د( على إبطال " أي من اﻷعراف أو الممارسات التي تسمح ﻷحد اﻷبوين أو كليهما، أو للوصي بتسليم طفل أو مراهق دون الثامنة عشرة إلى شخص آخر، لقاء عوض أو بلا عوض، على قصد استغلال الطفل أو المراهق أو استغلال عمله " .

This suggests that only illegal adoptions, where there is an intention to exploit the child (in forced labour or sexually), can amount to trafficking in children, as the Supplementary Convention in its article 1 (d) refers to " the exploitation of the child or young person or of his labour " .
ويوحي ذلك بأنَّ التبني غير القانوني فقط، الذي تتوافر فيه النيّة لاستغلال الطفل (في الأعمال القسرية أو جنسياً)، هو الذي يُعتبر اتجاراً بالأطفال، بموجب إشارة الاتفاقية التكميلية في مادتها 1 (د) إلى " استغلال الطفل أو المراهق أو استغلال عمله " .
