Speakers stressed the importance of the technical assistance provided by UNODC to requesting States in order to assist them in meeting their obligations under the Convention and its Protocols and reaffirmed that technical assistance should be delivered on the basis of needs and priorities.

To achieve those objectives, the following activities may be considered: (a) provision of ad hoc assistance to requesting States through training workshops and seminars; and (b) voluntary programmes to test mechanisms for gathering information and reviewing implementation.

5. Recommends that, throughout the entire electoral process time-span, including before and after elections, as appropriate, based on needs assessment missions, the United Nations continue to provide technical advice and other assistance to requesting States and electoral institutions in order to help to strengthen their democratic processes;
5 - توصي بأن تواصل الأمم المتحدة تقديم المشورة الفنية وغيرها من أشكال المساعدة إلى الدول الطالبة للمساعدة وإلى المؤسسات الانتخابية، استنادا إلى بعثات تقييم الاحتياجات، من أجل أن تساعد في تعزيز عملياتها الديمقراطية، وذلك طوال الفترة الزمنية التي تستغرقها العملية الانتخابية بأسرها، بما في ذلك، إذا اقتضى الأمر، قبل الانتخابات وبعدها؛

8. The main focus of the activities under the technical assistance projects on strengthening the legal regime against terrorism has been on the provision of direct legal advisory services to requesting States on incorporation of the relevant provisions contained in the 12 universal anti-terrorism conventions and protocols into national legislation.
