54. Recalling that a request had been submitted to the Authority in August 1998 with respect to the adoption of regulations for exploration for polymetallic sulphides and cobalt-rich crusts, the Secretary-General of the Authority noted that, pursuant to article 162, paragraph 2 (o) (ii), of the Convention, such rules, regulations and procedures would need to be adopted within three years from the date of the request.
