32. To that end, the Secretary-General, in his reports to the functional commissions on their methods of work, made several recommendations.

27. There is a trend towards an increased reflection of a gender perspective in reports of the Secretary-General that were submitted to the functional commissions, with an 11 percentage point increase compared with the previous year.

While the percentage of reports of the Secretary-General reflecting a gender perspective to the Economic and Social Council and the General Assembly decreased very slightly, there was a significant increase in the number of reports to the functional commissions of the Council that considered gender equality issues.

19. A sharp decrease was recorded, however, in the percentage of reports with a gender perspective submitted to the functional commissions (see figure V and table 4): while in 2011 74 per cent of reports reflected a gender perspective, in 2012 only 41 per cent of reports did so.

16 In resolution 2001/27, the Council requested the Secretary-General to include, in the next consolidated report, an analysis of the practice of its functional commissions in the preparation of draft resolutions for action by the Council or the General Assembly with a view to elaborating guidelines addressed to the functional commissions on the submission of draft proposals to the Council.
