In a communication dated 5 October 1994, the Special Rapporteur transmitted the following observations to the Government of Zimbabwe:

57. On 4 March 2002, the Special Rapporteur sent a communication to the Government of Zimbabwe regarding 11 Christians, including 4 clergymen who were reportedly arrested on 16 February 2002 while taking part in a prayer procession for peaceful elections.

On 11 July 2002, the Special Rapporteur wrote to the Government of Zimbabwe concerning the famine in the country and allegations of violations of the right to food.

440. The Working Group sent one case under its urgent action procedure to the Government of Zimbabwe on 30 January 2008, regarding Gasto Mwela, arrested in Tongorara camp by security forces.

UNCHS (Habitat) provided technical assistance to the Government of Zimbabwe in the preparation of National Shelter Strategies and strengthened the institutional capacity in policy-making and housing programming at the national, provincial and local levels.

In April 2006, a joint communication was sent to the Government of Zimbabwe concerning a 65year-old human rights defender and former Chairwoman of the Porta Farm Residents' Committee, who spoke out against forced evictions that took place in 2004 and 2005.

Despite the many instances of a lack of cooperation by the Zimbabwean authorities, I have, in response to the further assurances contained in the letter of its Permanent Representative under reference, once again written to the Government of Zimbabwe welcoming its assurances of cooperation and have requested to visit Harare from 10 to 12 September 2012 for consultations on the way forward.

Alongside her previous work, in cooperation with the ILO, on clarifying constraints upon the rights of teachers in Ethiopia (E/CN.4/2001/52, para. 19), the Special Rapporteur sent a joint letter to the Government of Zimbabwe on 18 October 2002 together with the Special Rapporteurs on torture and on freedom of opinion and expression and the Working Group on arbitrary detention.
