34. As the Office has reported on previous occasions, there is a need to review the planning process for shipments to the Logistics Base. While general guidelines have been established, the Office believes that further efforts must be made to prevent unnecessary shipments in future mission liquidations.

At the same time, the Committee trusts that the proposals made by the Secretary-General on procedures and guidelines for the transfer of equipment and supplies from peace-keeping missions to the Logistics Base in Brindisi would ensure, when implemented, that only serviceable equipment and usable supplies are stored at the Base (see also paras. 34 and 35 below).

31. As stated in the Secretary-General’s report of 21 May 1997 on the financing of the United Nations Logistics Base at Brindisi (A/51/905), the Secretariat has established a policy providing for the transfer to the Logistics Base of only those assets which have at least two years’ useful life remaining and are serviceable or repairable at not more than 30 per cent of their depreciated value.
١٣ - على نحو ما ورد في تقرير اﻷمين العام المؤرخ ٢١ أيار/ مايو ١٩٩٧ المتعلق بتمويل قاعدة اﻷمم المتحدة للسوقيات في برينديزي (A/51/905)، وضعت اﻷمانة العامة سياسة تنص على ألا ينقل إلى قاعدة السوقيات سوى اﻷصول التي ما زالت صالحة للاستعمال لمدة سنتين على اﻷقل والتي تكون قابلة للصيانة أو لﻹصلاح بتكلفة لا تتجاوز ٣٠ في المائة من قيمتها بعد الاستهلاك.
