The United Nations Observer Mission in Liberia (UNOMIL) was established under Security Council resolution 856 (1993) of 10 August 1993 to work with the Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in the implementation of the Cotonou Peace Agreement signed between the Liberian parties on 25 July 1993.
٧١٩ - أنشئت بعثـــة مراقبي اﻷمــــم المتحدة في ليبريا بموجب قرار مجلس اﻷمن ٨٥٦ )١٩٩٣( المؤرخ ١٠ آب/أغسطس١٩٩٣ للعمل مع فريق المراقبة التابع للجماعة الاقتصادية لدول غرب افريقيا من أجل تنفيذ اتفاق كوتونو للسلم الموقع بين الفصائل الليبرية في ٢٥ تموز/يوليه ١٩٩٣.

720. Initial progress was made under the Cotonou Peace Agreement and this encouraged the Security Council, by its resolution 911 (1994) of 21 April 1994, to extend the mandate of UNOMIL until 22 October 1994, with the expectation that the Mission would be terminated in December 1994.
٧٢٠ - وقد أحرز التقدم اﻷصلي في إطار اتفاق كوتونو للسلم مما شجع مجلس اﻷمن على أن يمدد، بموجب قراره ٩١١ )١٩٩٤( المؤرخ ٢١ نيسان/ابريل ١٩٩٤، فترة ولاية بعثة مراقبي اﻷمم المتحدة في ليبريا لغاية ٢٢ تشرين اﻷول/اكتوبر ١٩٩٤، مع توقع إنهاء البعثة في شهر كانون اﻷول/ديسمبر ١٩٩٤.

The implementation of the Cotonou Peace Agreement is dependent not only on the ability of UNOMIL and ECOMOG to meet their obligations as outlined in the Agreement, but also on the deployment of additional ECOMOG peace-keeping troops from three new troop-contributing countries, as well as financial support from yet another source for the additional troops.
ولا يتوقف تنفيذ اتفاق كوتونو للسلم فقط على قدرة البعثة وفريق المراقبين العسكريين التابع للاتحاد الاقتصادي لدول غربي افريقيا على الوفاء بالتزاماتهما على النحو الوارد في الاتفاق، بل أيضا على وزع قوات اضافية لحفظ السلم تابعة لفريق المراقبين العسكريين من ثلاثة بلدان جديدة مساهمة بقوات، فضلا عن توفير الدعم المالي اللازم للقوات الاضافية من مصدر آخر.

In that connection, the considerable efforts made by the United Nations, the Organization of African Unity and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) towards the peaceful settlement of the Liberian civil war had led to the signing in July 1993 of the Cotonou Peace Agreement and the adoption by the Security Council of resolution 866 (1993) on the establishment of the United Nations Observer Mission in Liberia (UNOMIL).
