One draft resolution, entitled " Effects of the use of depleted uranium in armaments " , was not adopted, and another resolution, entitled " Disarmament, non-proliferation and international peace and security " , was withdrawn due to lack of consensus.

" 1. Requests the Secretary-General to seek the views of States and relevant organizations on all aspects of the effects of the use of depleted uranium in armaments and to submit a report thereon to the General Assembly at its fifty-eighth session;
" 1 - تطلب إلى الأمين العام أن يستطلع آراء الدول والمنظمات المختصة بشأن آثار استخدام اليورانيوم المنضب في التسلح من جميع جوانبها، وأن يقدم تقريرا بذلك إلى الجمعية العامة في دورتها الثامنة والخمسين؛

The First Committee adopted a similar text at the fifty-sixth session of the General Assembly, which requested the Secretary-General to seek the views of States and relevant organizations on all aspects of the effects of the use of depleted uranium in armaments and to submit a report thereon to the General Assembly at its fifty-eighth session.
ولقد اعتمد خبراء اللجنة الأولى في الدورة الماضية للجمعية العامة هذا المشروع الذي يدعو الأمين العام إلى استطلاع آراء الدول والمنظمات المختصة بشأن آثار استخدام اليورانيوم المنضب في التسلح من جميع جوانبه، وأن يقدم تقريرا بذلك إلى الدورة القادمة للجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة.

25. At the 16th meeting, on 18 October, the representative of Iraq introduced a draft resolution entitled " Effects of the use of depleted uranium in armaments " (A/C.1/57/L.14), which read:
25 - في الجلسة 16 المعقودة في 18 تشرين الأول/أكتوبر عرض ممثل العراق مشروع قرار معنون " آثار استخدام اليورانيوم المنضب في التسلح " (A/C.1/57/L.14)، هذا نصه:

" 2. Decides to include in the provisional agenda of its fifty-eighth session an item entitled `Effects of the use of depleted uranium in armaments' . "
" 2 - تقرر أن تدرج في جدول الأعمال المؤقت لدورتها الثامنة والخمسين البند المعنون `آثار استخدام اليورانيوم المنضب في التسلح ' " .

Mr. Mahmoud (Iraq) (spoke in Arabic): I have the honour to introduce a draft resolution entitled " Effects of the use of depleted uranium in armaments " , under agenda item 66 on general and complete disarmament. The draft resolution is contained in document A/C.1/57/L.14.

The international community, as represented by the United Nations and the Conference on Disarmament, must make a serious effort to conclude an international agreement prohibiting the use of depleted uranium in armaments, and it must strengthen the international agreements in effect with supplementary measures to deter those that fail to respect environmental norms.
8 - إن على المجتمع الدولي متمثلا بالأمم المتحدة ومؤتمر نزع السلاح أن يسعى بجد لإبرام اتفاقية دولية تحظر استخدام اليورانيوم المنضب في التسلح وأن يعمل على تعزيز الاتفاقيات الدولية النافذة بإجراءات إضافية تردع الأطراف التي تتجاهل احترام القواعد البيئية.
