While the Palermo Protocol does not expressly require States to provide for interpretation or translation assistance, it is one of the essential requirements to effectively guarantee the right of trafficked persons to seek remedies, and the availability of such assistance should not be limited to judicial proceedings.

Further, on 22 and 23 November 2010, the Special Rapporteur convened an expert consultation on the right to an effective remedy for trafficked persons, in Bratislava, in preparation of the present report.

63. In the efforts to enhance the implementation of the right to an effective remedy for trafficked persons, the Special Rapporteur also makes the following recommendations.

6. Ensuring that the protection of trafficked persons is built into anti-trafficking legislation, including protection from summary deportation or return where there are reasonable grounds to conclude that such deportation or return would represent a significant security risk to the trafficked person and/or her/his family.

35. An additional obstacle for trafficked persons to receive compensation is that even when compensation orders are made against traffickers, it is extremely difficult to enforce such orders and actually receive compensation.
