The 2000 Review Conference of the States parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) included in its Final Document a number of agreed conclusions and recommendations related to nuclear disarmament.

10. The Group of Non-Aligned States parties to the Treaty on the NonProliferation of Nuclear Weapons has called for the establishment of a subsidiary body on nuclear disarmament to focus on the issue of fulfilment of the obligations under article VI.

إن نتيجة المؤتمر الاستعراضي للدول الأطراف في معاهدة منع انتشار الأسلحة النووية لعام 2000، ومؤتمر الأمم المتحدة القادم المعني بالاتجار غير المشروع بالأسلحة الصغيرة والخفيفة بكل جوانبه، وجدول أعمال هيئة نزع السلاح في دورتها الحالية، تمكناننا من النظر إلى المستقبل بتفاؤل.

We believe that the most effective way to achieve that goal is through practical and concrete steps of nuclear disarmament, on which the States parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) agreed in the Final Document of the 2000 Review Conference.

We likewise hope that all parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) will observe their commitments as stipulated in the Treaty and in their comprehensive safeguards agreements. We hope that they will cooperate closely with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to resolve any questions that may be asked, or doubts raised, about their programmes, through dialogue and constructive negotiations.
