I. The situation in Darfur

I assure you that the Government of the Sudan is eager and determined to deal with the situation in Darfur and elsewhere, for it is absolutely convinced that peace in the country consists of a whole that cannot be broken into parts. Here I refer specifically to the statement by the President of the Republic, Omer Hassan Ahmed al-Bashir, to the effect that peace will not be complete without a peaceful settlement of the problem of Darfur.
وأود أن أؤكد لكم أن حكومة السودان أكثر حرصا وإصرارا على معالجة الأوضاع في دارفور وغيرها انطلاقا من قناعتها التامة أن السلام في البلاد كل لا يتجزأ وأشير هنا بصفة خاصة إلى ما قاله السيد رئيس الجمهورية عمر حسن أحمد البشير، من أن هذا السلام لن يكون كاملا بدون إيجاد تسوية سلمية لمشكلة دارفور.

In this sense, I am saddened to report that, although last year at this same podium I referred to the situations in Darfur, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Somalia, those situations continue to be desperate.
