The purpose of the workshop was to focus on progress in implementing all aspects of the Ottawa Convention by the States Parties to it in South Eastern Europe in light of the Convention's First Review Conference.

36. On the basis of the President's Paper on Developing a Process to Prepare for the Convention's First Review Conference as contained in Annex IV, the Meeting agreed to mandate the President to facilitate consultations leading to consideration of a variety of matters at the Fifth Meeting on preparations for the Convention's First Review Conference.
36- وعلى أساس ورقة الرئيس بشأن استحداث عملية التحضير للمؤتمر الاستعراضي الأول للاتفاقية كما يرد في المرفق الرابع، وافق الاجتماع على منح ولاية للرئيس تقضي بتسهيله المشاورات التي ستؤدي إلى النظر في طائفة من المسائل خلال الاجتماع الخامس المعني بعمليات التحضير للمؤتمر الاستعراضي الأول للاتفاقية.

Amended Protocol II not only marked a step forward in efforts to combat the humanitarian consequences of landmines, booby-traps and other devices, it was also a symbol reminding States that they had not completed the work commenced at the Convention's First Review conference.
31- وقال إن البروتوكول الثاني المعدل لا يشكل خطوة نحو مكافحة الآثار التي تخلفها الألغام والأشراك الخداعية والنبائط الأخرى على البشرية فحسب، بل إنه رمز يذكر الدول بأنها لم تستكمل العمل الذي شرعت فيه خلال المؤتمر الاستعراضي الأول للاتفاقية.

Amended Protocol II not only marked a step forward in efforts to combat the humanitarian consequences of landmines, boobytraps and other devices, it was also a symbol reminding States that they had not completed the work commenced at the Convention's First Review conference.
31- وقال إن البروتوكول الثاني المعدل لا يشكل خطوة نحو مكافحة الآثار التي تخلفها الألغام والأشراك الخداعية والنبائط الأخرى على البشرية فحسب، بل إنه رمز يذكر الدول بأنها لم تستكمل العمل الذي شرعت فيه خلال المؤتمر الاستعراضي الأول للاتفاقية.

8. Requests the Secretary-General, in accordance with article 12, paragraph 1, of the Convention, to undertake the preparations necessary to convene the Convention's First Review Conference, at Nairobi from 29 November to 3 December 2004;

To hold the Convention's First Review Conference at the United Nations facilities in Nairobi from 29 November to 3 December 2004 and to hold preparatory meetings in United Nations facilities in Geneva on 13 February and 28-29 June 2004;
● عقد المؤتمر الاستعراضي الأول للاتفاقية بمكاتب الأمم المتحدة بنيروبي في الفترة من 29 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر إلى 3 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2004 وعقد اجتماعين تحضيريين بمكاتب الأمم المتحدة بجنيف في يوم 13 شباط/فبراير وفي يومي 28 و29 حزيران/يونيه 2004؛

Therefore, as Mr. Molander, Chairman of the group of governmental experts preparing the first Review conference of the Convention, to be held in 1995, eloquently stated earlier this week, there is a need, first of all, for a much larger adherence to the Convention, and, secondly, for a further strengthening of the scope of, and compliance with, the Convention.
