29. The Forum of Ministers of the Environment of Latin America and the Caribbean agreed at its thirteenth session, in 2001, to develop ethical principles for a regional environmental action plan.

IV. Fourteenth Meeting of the Forum of Ministers of the Environment of Latin America and the Caribbean

To oversee this South-South cooperation, the Forum of Ministers of Environment of Latin America and the Caribbean, for which the UNEP Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean is the secretariat, has established a ministerial support group chaired by the Government of Chile.

In addition, the 15th Forum of Ministers of the Environment of Latin America and the Caribbean was held in Caracas from 31 October to 7 November 2005.

Of note in this connection is the decision, adopted at the sixteenth meeting of the Forum of Ministers of the Environment of Latin America and the Caribbean, to work with regional organizations and collaborators to reduce the sulphur content of fuels.

Since its establishment, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has led projects in such areas as renewable energy development, climate change adaptation and food safety, while the Forum of Ministers of the Environment of Latin America and the Caribbean serves as a forum for dialogue and consensus-building on the environment.

4. The Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Centre is a regional research, education and development organization with 13 member countries, which has worked since 1973 to improve the livelihoods of rural people and protect the Environment in Latin America and the Caribbean.

A number of regional initiatives on sustainable consumption and production were described, including the African regional 10-year framework of programmes on sustainable consumption and production, the Green Bridge initiative in Central Asia, the Green Growth initiative in Asia, and a commitment to sustainable consumption and production made by Ministers of Environment in Latin America and the Caribbean.
