The requirements for the holding of a regional preparatory meeting in each of the three regions of small island developing States and the interregional preparatory meeting for all small island developing States in 2013, mentioned in paragraph 9 of the draft resolution, would be met from voluntary contributions.

At the request of the Alliance of Small Island States and Small Island Developing States that participated in the interregional preparatory Meeting for the International Meeting to Review the Implementation of the Barbados Programme of Action, which was held in Nassau from 26 to 30 January 2004, I have the honour to transmit to you the Nassau Declaration, adopted by ministers and heads of delegation (see annex).

In order to achieve this the AOSIS leadership should be informed of the outcome of the meeting, and be invited to place the item of the energy agenda development on the draft agenda for the Inter-regional Preparatory Meeting for the Review of the Implementation of the Barbados Program of Action, to be held in Bahamas in January 2004, in preparation for the International Meeting in Mauritius in August 2004.
