With a view to supporting efforts at various levels to enhance compliance with and enforcement of multilateral environmental agreements, UNEP continues to disseminate the Guidelines on Compliance with and Enforcement of Multilateral Environmental Agreements adopted by the Governing Council in its decision SS VII/4 of 15 February 2002.

While progress has been recorded in a number of areas, much remains to be done, particularly with regard to regular monitoring of the implementation of the gender equality action plan in line with the medium-term strategic and institutional plan for 2008 - 2013 adopted by the Governing Council in resolution 21/2 and the impact of gender mainstreaming initiatives at all levels.
