To this end, chapter X of the World Summit on Sustainable Development's Plan of Implementation -- which anticipates new changes in the work of the United Nations system -- and other relevant conferences should be implemented in an expeditious manner.

The Plan of Implementation, of the World Summit on Sustainable Development (Johannesburg Plan of Implementation), noted that sustainable forest management is a critical means to eradicate poverty, significantly reduce deforestation, halt the loss of forest biodiversity and land and resource degradation and improve food security and access to safe drinking water and affordable energy.
