1. Recent developments in international relations, especially in the fields of disarmament and non-proliferation, have led to increased efforts to consolidate existing and to establish new nuclear-weapon-free zones on the basis of arrangements freely arrived at among the States of the region concerned and to a better understanding of the importance of such zones.
١ - أدت التطورات اﻷخيرة في العلاقات الدولية، وخاصة في ميداني نزع السلاح وعدم الانتشار، إلى بذل جهود متزايدة لتعزيز المناطق الخالية من اﻷسلحة النووية القائمة وإنشاء مناطق جديدة على أساس الترتيبات التي يجري التوصل إليها بحرية فيما بين دول المنطقة المعنية، وتحسين فهم أهمية هذه المناطق.

In accordance with the decisions taken at its organizational session, the Disarmament Commission entrusted Working Group I with the mandate of dealing with agenda item 4, entitled “The establishment of nuclear-weapon-free zones on the basis of arrangements freely arrived at among the States of the region concerned”.
١٢ - ووفقا للمقررات المتخذة أثناء الدورة التنظيمية، عهدت هيئة نزع السلاح إلى الفريق العامل اﻷول بمهمة تناول البند ٤ من جدول اﻷعمال المعنون " إنشاء مناطق خالية من اﻷسلحة النووية على أساس الترتيبات التي يجري التوصل إليها بحرية فيما بين دول المنطقة المعنية " .

8. At its 17th meeting, on 30 April, the Working Group considered and adopted by consensus its report on agenda item 4 and a text entitled “Establishment of nuclear-weapon-free zones on the basis of arrangements freely arrived at among the States of the region concerned”, which is annexed to the present report (see annex I).
٨ - وفي الجلسة ١٧، المعقودة في ٣٠ نيسان/أبريل، نظر الفريق العامل في تقريره بشأن البند ٤ من جدول اﻷعمال وفي نص معنون " إنشاء مناطق خالية من اﻷسلحة النووية على أساس الترتيبات التي يجري التوصل إليها بحرية فيما بين دول المنطقة المعنية " يرد مرفقا بهذا التقرير )انظر المرفق اﻷول(، واعتمدها بتوافق اﻵراء.

“Taking note of the report of the Disarmament Commission at its 1999 substantive session, and welcoming the Principles and Guidelines contained therein on the establishment of nuclear-weapon-free zones on the basis of arrangements freely arrived at among the States of the region concerned,” was deleted.
