In the interim, MERCOSUR and the associated States had undertaken to adopt measures aimed at preventing vessels flying the illegal flag of the Malvinas Islands from entering their ports, and to exchange information on vessels bound for the Malvinas Islands, South Georgia Islands and South Sandwich Islands with cargo intended for illegal drilling operations on the Argentine continental shelf.

In this regard, the Argentine Republic reiterates its firm rejection of the British attempt to authorize hydrocarbons exploration and exploitation activities in areas of the Argentine continental shelf unlawfully occupied by the United Kingdom, which prompted a strong protest from the Argentine Government on 2 February 2010 (A/64/653).
