The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) secretariat undertook in 1997-1998 a first survey of the status of Cetaceans in Senegal, Gambia and Guinea-Bissau, as part of a long-term international effort to stimulate broad regional involvement in research and conservation of West African cetaceans.

150. In November 2006, the fourth meeting of the Scientific Committee of ACCOBAMS adopted a number of recommendations for the conservation of Cetaceans in the Mediterranean.

Two regional agreements, concluded under the auspices of the Convention on Migratory Species, address the conservation of cetaceans: the 1991 Agreement on the Conservation of Small Cetaceans of the Baltic and North Seas (ASCOBANS) and the 1996 Agreement on the Conservation of Cetaceans of the Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea and Contiguous Atlantic Area (ACCOBAMS).

176. In November 2010, the Meeting of Parties to the Agreement on the Conservation of Cetaceans of the Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea and Neighbouring Atlantic Area adopted resolution 4.15 on marine protected areas of importance for cetaceans conservation.

225. An Agreement on the Conservation of Cetaceans of the Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea and Contiguous Atlantic Area was adopted at an intergovernmental meeting held in Monaco in November 1996, under the aegis of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals.
٢٢٥ - واعتمد اتفاق متعلق بحفظ الحيتانيات في البحر اﻷسود والبحر اﻷبيض المتوسط ومنطقة المحيط اﻷطلسي المتاخمة، في اجتماع حكومي دولي عقد في موناكو في تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر ١٩٩٦، تحت رعاية اتفاقية حفظ أنواع الحيوانات البرية المهاجرة.
