Mrs. FEROUKHI (Algeria) said that the present session of the Conference was taking place against the backdrop of the entry into force of the Kyoto Protocol, the imminent commemoration of UNIDO's fortieth anniversary and the expected appointment of Mr. Kandeh Yumkella to the post of Director-General. Her delegation paid tribute to the outgoing Director-General for revitalizing the Organization during his eight years in office.
