The Programme is a tangible demonstration by the World Solar Commission and others that have supported the World Solar Summit process that they recognize that achieving a sustainable energy future is an enormous challenge which requires the contribution of all concerned parties, Governments, the international community, the private sector, academia and non-governmental organizations.

2. Notes with appreciation the role that the World Solar Commission continues to play in the mobilization of international support and assistance for the implementation of many of the national high-priority projects on renewable sources of energy included in the World Solar Programme 1996 - 2005, many of which are being executed with national funding;

Since the World Summit on Sustainable Development would be held in Africa, he hoped that it would give due attention to the subject of new and renewable sources of energy, leading to the adoption of concrete initiatives that would give impetus to the implementation of programmes of the World Solar Commission.

وسيستمر البرنامج العالمي للطاقة الشمسية على مدى العقد ١٩٩٦-٢٠٠٥ من خلال وضع وتنفيذ مشاريع ذات أولوية على اﻷصعدة الوطني واﻹقليمي والعالمي بقيادة اللجنة العالمية للطاقة الشمسية وإشرافها.

The World Solar Commission and its General Secretariat (located in the Division of Engineering and Technology of UNESCO) continues to guide and coordinate the implementation of a number of projects included in the World Solar Programme 1996-2005.
