Self-determination was a prerequisite for the implementation of all human rights, as enshrined in the International Covenants on Human Rights and other United Nations human rights instruments based on the provisions of those Covenants.

20. The right to free determination is stated in the shared article 1 of the two International Human Rights Covenants of 1966 and in article 3 of the Declaration.

3. The report reviews the extent to which the ongoing sanctions are violating the imperative principles laid down in the two International Covenants on Human Rights, in particular by preventing the Iraqi people from enjoying their own means of subsistence and disposing of their natural resources.

Under the International Covenants on Human Rights, which had been specifically extended to Gibraltar in 1976, without objection from Spain, all peoples had the right to self-determination, and the obligation to respect that right was imposed not just on administering Powers but on all Member States, Spain included.
وكذلك فإن لجميع الشعوب الحق، بموجب العهدين الدوليين لحقوق اﻹنسان اللذين شملا بصورة محددة جبل طارق في ١٩٧٦، وبدون اعتراض من اسبانيا، في تقرير المصير، وأن الالتزام باحترام هذا الحق لا ينطبق على الدولة القائمة باﻹدارة وحدها ولكن على جميع الدول اﻷعضاء ومن ضمنها اسبانيا.

Although Myanmar is not yet a party to the two International Covenants on Human Rights mentioned in the resolution, Myanmar abides by those provisions and principles embodied in the covenants which are taken from the Charter of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights or have attained the status of rules of customary international law.
وبالرغم من أن ميانمار لم تصبح بعد طرفا في العهدين الدوليين لحقوق اﻹنسان المشار إليهما في القرار، فإنها تتقيد بما ورد في العهدين من أحكام ومبادئ اقتبست من ميثاق اﻷمم المتحدة واﻹعلان العالمي لحقوق اﻹنسان أو بلغت مركز قواعد القانون الدولي العرفي.

5. Iraq emphatically regards article 1 of the International Covenants on Human Rights as an imperative principle of international law since it relates to the right of peoples to exercise self-determination, to freely determine their political status without external interference, to dispose of their natural resources and not to be deprived of their own means of subsistence under any circumstances whatsoever.
٥- إن العراق يؤكد اعتبار المادة ١ من العهدين الدوليين لحقوق اﻹنسان من القواعد اﻵمرة في القانون الدولي لتعلقها بحق الشعوب في تقرير مصيرها واختيار نظامها السياسي بحرية وبدون تدخل خارجي، وحقها في السيطرة على ثرواتها الطبيعية، وعدم جواز حرمان أي شعب من أسباب عيشه الخاصة في أي حال من اﻷحوال.

(n) Full realization of the rights of all peoples, including those living under colonial or other forms of alien domination or foreign occupation, to self-determination enshrined in the Charter and embodied in the International Covenants on Human Rights, as well as in the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples contained in General Assembly resolution 1514 (XV) of 14 December 1960;

However, as we reaffirmed, the United Kingdom does not accept that some groups in society should benefit from human rights that are not available to others. With the exception of the right to self-determination -- common article 1 of the two International Human Rights Covenants -- we therefore do not accept the concept of collective human rights in international law.
غير أن المملكة المتحدة، كما أكدنا من جديد، لا تقبل بأن تستفيد بعض فئات المجتمع من حقوق إنسان غير متاحة لغيرها، باستثناء حق تقرير المصير - المادة 1 المشتركة بين العهدين الدوليين لحقوق الإنسان - ولذلك لا نقبل بمفهوم حقوق الإنسان الجماعية في القانون الدولي.

8. On Palestinian self-determination, the most fundamental international human right whose realization has been thwarted by Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories is the inalienable right of self-determination as enshrined in article 1 of both International Human Rights Covenants.
8 - وفيما يتعلق بتقرير المصير للفلسطينيين، فإن أبسط حق من حقوق الإنسان الدولية الذي أعاق إعماله الاحتلال الإسرائيلي للأراضي الفلسطينية هو الحق غير القابل للتصرف في تقرير المصير المنصوص عليه في المادة 1 من كل من العهدين الدوليين لحقوق الإنسان.

The amendment of the Constitution on 27 November 2005 had introduced substantial improvements in, inter alia, the provisions concerning fundamental rights and freedoms, thus making them more compliant with the requirements of International Human Rights Covenants.
