Some of the activities initiated include the identification of a " core-set " of indicators to measure changes in consumption and production patterns, a case study on trade opportunities for developing countries due to changes in consumption and production patterns in industrialized countries, and the development of a database on new and innovative instruments intended to make consumption patterns more sustainable.

However, certain provisions remained which could pose difficulties for the full exploitation of Trading Opportunities for Developing Countries, e.g. " quota modulation " , " cross cumulation " , and the exclusion of " captive production " in the determination of the domestic production.

At the same time, a number of matters directly linked to the functioning of the international trading system are being considered by the newly established intergovernmental organs, particularly the Standing Committee on Developing Services Sectors and the Ad Hoc Working Group on Expansion of Trading Opportunities for Developing Countries.
