In stark contrast, my distinguished colleague the Permanent Observer of Palestine, Ambassador Nasser Al-Kidwa, in a statement quoted last week by Reuters, had the audacity to defend the killing of the two Israeli soldiers in Ramallah, saying,

As our restraint has clearly demonstrated, Israel has no interest whatsoever in inflicting pain or damage on our neighbours, and it serves no one's interest for Mr. Al-Kidwa to portray the situation in that way.
ولما كان ضبط النفس واضحا تماما لدينا فلا مصلحة لإسرائيل أبدا في إلحاق آلام أو أضرار بجيراننا، وليس من مصلحة أي أحد أن يصور السيد القدوة الحالة بهذه الطريقة.

Our feelings of solidarity and support at this time of such sorrow and distress also go most particularly to Ambassador Nasser Al-Kidwa and the other members of the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine to the United Nations.

In particular, we appreciate his strenuous efforts to lead by example in changing the Secretariat's working culture.
