The World Solar Programme was the outcome of a concerted effort by the World Solar Commission and entities within and outside the United Nations system under the auspices of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
وقد جاء البرنامج العالمي للطاقة الشمسية وليد جهد متضافر بذلته اللجنة العالمية للطاقة الشمسية وكيانات داخل وخارج منظومة اﻷمم المتحدة برعاية منظمة اﻷمم المتحدة للتربية والعلم والثقافة )اليونسكو(.

5. Although the current emphasis of the World Solar Programme 1996-2005 was on solar energy, the World Solar Commission was committed to encouraging and promoting research and development activities in all components of new and renewable sources of energy.
