98. The need to forge further the United Nations system-wide coordination, including the Bretton Woods institutions, and collaborative approaches to African development, and to reconcile these with development priorities as defined by African countries themselves, justified the launching of the Special Initiative on Africa.

The Meeting stressed that the new committee should address in a comprehensive way all aspects of the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action coming within the purview of the United Nations system, and should interact closely both with the task forces established to follow up other recent United Nations conferences and summits and with other committees and task forces of ACC, including the Special Initiative on Africa.
وأكد الاجتماع على ضرورة أن تعالج اللجنة الجديدة وبطريقة شاملة، جميع أوجه تنفيذ منهاج عمل بيجين التي تدخل في نطاق عمل منظومة اﻷمم المتحدة، وأن تتعاون على نحو وثيق مع أفرقة العمل المنشأة لمتابعة مؤتمرات اﻷمم المتحدة ومؤتمرات القمة اﻷخيرة، ومع اللجان وأفرقة العمل اﻷخرى التابعة للجنة التنسيق اﻹدارية، بما فيها المبادرة الخاصة بشأن أفريقيا.

9. Issues regarding UNCTAD's role included: (a) the specifics on UNCTAD's contribution to the Special Initiative on Africa on trade and market access; and (b) whether UNCTAD should play a lead agency role in investment, which is part of the Special Initiative.
