The present report provides information on resources appropriated for activities related to apartheid under sections 3A, 3C and 24 of the programme budget for the biennium 1994-1995; estimated expenditures in 1994; and proposals for disposition of the remainder of these resources.

86. It is proposed that the amount of $119,700 be redeployed from the resources initially approved for activities related to apartheid under section 3 of the programme budget for 1994-1995 to section 15 (Economic Commission for Africa).

As indicated in his report on revised estimates under sections 3A, 3B, 3C, 4, 8, 15, 24 and 28 and income section 1 (A/C.5/49/44), the Secretary-General has proposed to redeploy $601,100 from resources originally appropriated for activities related to apartheid under section 3 for the purpose of extending the special mission through 1995.

Section III contains revised estimates for the Department of Political Affairs, following the merger of its two parts under one Under-Secretary-General, as outlined in the report of the Secretary-General on the restructuring of the United Nations Secretariat (A/49/336), and the redeployment within the Department of some of the resources released from the activities relating to apartheid.

The overall level of resources, as indicated in table 25.3, reflects, inter alia, the abolition of 12 Professional level posts (6 P-4/3 and 6 P-2/1 posts) and one General Service post in connection with the elimination of resources appropriated for activities relating to apartheid and the surrender of one D-1 post assigned to the Secretariat of the United Nations Fiftieth Anniversary.
