The Conference of the Parties may, in principle in its ordinary session, and as necessary, appoint ad hoc panels to provide it, through the Committee on Science and Technology, with information and advice on specific issues regarding the state of the art in fields of science and technology relevant to combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought.

١- يجوز لمؤتمر اﻷطراف، حسبما يقتضيه اﻷمر، أن يعين أفرقة مخصصة لتوافيه، عن طريق لجنة العلم والتكنولوجيا، بالمشورة بشأن قضايا محددة تتعلق بآخر ما وصل إليه التقدم في ميادين العلم والتكنولوجيا المتصلة بمكافحة التصحر وتخفيف آثار الجفاف.

The role of the Committee is to provide the Conference of the Parties with information and advice on scientific and technological matters relating to combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought to ensure that its decisions are based on the most up-to-date scientific knowledge. ويتمثل دور اللجنة في موافاة مؤتمر الأطراف بالمعلومات والمشورة بشأن المسائل العلمية والتكنولوجية المتصلة بمكافحة التصحر وتخفيف آثار الجفاف بما يكفل استناد قراراته إلى أحدث المعارف العلمية.

13. Article 24, paragraph 3 of the Convention provides that the Conference of the Parties " may, as necessary, appoint ad hoc panels to provide it, through the Committee, with information and advice on specific issues regarding the state of the art in fields of science and technology relevant to combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought.

٣- يجوز لمؤتمر اﻷطراف، حسبما يكون ضروريا، أن يعين أفرقة مخصصة لكي تقدم إليه، عن طريق اللجنة، المعلومات والمشورة بشأن قضايا محددة تتعلق بآخر ما وصل إليه التقدم في ميادين العلم والتكنولوجيا المتصلة بمكافحة التصحر وتخفيف آثار الجفاف.

42. The Committee on Science and Technology might also take up the issue of the appointment and operation of the ad hoc panels set up by the Conference of the Parties to provide it, through the Committee, with information and advice on specific issues regarding the state of the art in fields of science and technology relevant to combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought.
42- ربما كان بإمكان لجنة العلم والتكنولوجيا أن تتناول مسألة تعيين الأفرقة التي أنشأها مؤتمر الأطراف وأساليب عملها، لكي تقدم معلومات وآراء من خلال اللجنة عن مواضيع محددة، تتعلق بحالة المعارف في مجال العلم والتكنولوجيا المتصلة بمكافحة التصحر وتخفيف آثار الجفاف.

24. The main function of the ad hoc panels is to provide information and advice to the COP, through the CST, on specific issues regarding the state of the art in fields of science and technology relevant to combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought. ٤٢- تختص اﻷفرقة المخصصة بتقديم المعلومات والمشورة إلى مؤتمر اﻷطراف، عن طريق لجنة العلم والتكنولوجيا، بشأن قضايا محددة تتعلق بآخر ما وصل إليه التقدم في ميادين العلم والتكنولوجيا المتصلة بمكافحة التصحر وتخفيف آثار الجفاف )بناء على المادة ٤٢ من الاتفاقية(.
