With respect to African countries, UNCTAD was instrumental in assisting individual countries and regional groupings as well as the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) secretariat in their preparation for the Fifth WTO Ministerial Conference, in engaging in the negotiations and work programme under the Doha work programme, and in building capacity for dealing with multilateral and other trade negotiations.
