The role of the Committee is to provide the Conference of the Parties with information and advice on scientific and technological matters relating to combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought to ensure that its decisions are based on the most up-to-date scientific knowledge.
وتقوم اللجنة بتقديم المعلومات والمشورة بشأن المسائل العلمية والتكنولوجية المتعلقة بمكافحة التصحر وتخفيف آثار الجفاف إلى مؤتمر اﻷطراف لكي يتخذ قراراته بناء على أحدث المعارف العلمية. الوظائف

In carrying out its functions, it shall, in particular, seek to facilitate the exchange of information relating to combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought between the Conference of the Parties and the scientific community.
وينبغي لها أن تسعى خاصة، لدى اضطلاعها بوظائفها، إلى تيسير تبادل المعلومات المتعلقة بمكافحة التصحر وتخفيف آثار الجفاف بين مؤتمر اﻷطراف والمجتمع العلمي.

1. A Committee on Science and Technology is hereby established as a subsidiary body of the Conference of the Parties to provide it with information and advice on scientific and technological matters relating to combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought.
١- تنشأ بموجب هذا لجنة للعلم والتكنولوجيا كهيئة فرعية لمؤتمر اﻷطراف. لكي تقدم إليه المعلومات والمشورة بشأن المسائل العلمية والتكنولوجية المتعلقة بمكافحة التصحر وتخفيف آثار الجفاف.

(a) Direct information is obtained from the institutions interested in joining the cooperative activities on combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought;
(أ ) الحصول على معلومات مباشرة من المؤسسات المهتمة بالانضمام إلى الأنشطة التعاونية المتعلقة بمكافحة التصحر وتخفيف آثار الجفاف؛

١ - تنشأ بموجب هذا لجنة للعلم والتكنولوجيا كهيئة فرعية لمؤتمر اﻷطراف، لكي تقدم إليه المعلومات والمشورة بشأن المسائل العلمية والتكنولوجية المتعلقة بمكافحة التصحر وتخفيف آثار الجفاف.

39. According to article 24 of the Convention, the CST should provide the COP with information and advice on scientific and technological matters relating to combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought.
39- وفقاً للمادة 24 من الاتفاقية، تقدم لجنة العلم والتكنولوجيا إلى مؤتمر الأطراف المعلومات والمشورة بشأن المسائل العلمية والتكنولوجية المتعلقة بمكافحة التصحر وتخفيف آثار الجفاف.

8. In accordance with article 24, paragraph 1, of the Convention, the CST is to provide the COP with information and advice on scientific and technological matters relating to combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought.

10. In accordance with article 24, paragraph 1, of the Convention, the CST is to provide the COP with information and advice on scientific and technological matters relating to combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought.
10- وفقاً للفقرة 1 من المادة 24 من الاتفاقية، تُقدم اللجنة إلى مؤتمر الأطراف المعلومات والمشورة بشأن المسائل العلمية والتكنولوجية المتعلقة بمكافحة التصحر وتخفيف آثار الجفاف.

(a) Identify, in cooperation with national institutions, priorities relating to combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought which can better be met by such programmes, as well as relevant activities which could be effectively carried out through them;
)أ( القيام، بالتعاون مع المؤسسات الوطنية، بتحديد اﻷولويات المتعلقة بمكافحة التصحر وتخفيف آثار الجفاف والتي يمكن أن تفي بها هذه البرامج على وجه أفضل، وكذلك اﻷنشطة ذات الصلة التي يمكن تنفيذها بصورة فعالة عن طريقها؛

(a) identify, in cooperation with national institutions, priorities relating to combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought which can better be met by such programmes, as well as relevant activities which could be effectively carried out through them;
)أ( القيام، بالتعاون مع المؤسسات الوطنية، بتحديد اﻷلويات المتعلقة بمكافحة التصحر وتخفيف آثار الجفاف والتي يمكن أن تفي بها هذه البرامج على وجه أفضل، وكذلك اﻷنشطة ذات الصلة التي يمكن تنفيذها بصورة فعالة عن طريقها؛

In this regard, the CST was established as a subsidiary body of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to provide it with information and advice on scientific and technological matters relating to combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought (Article 24).
وفي هذا الصدد، أنشئت لجنة العلم والتكنولوجيا كهيئة فرعية لمؤتمر الأطراف لكي تقدم إليه المعلومات والمشورة بشأن المسائل العلمية والتكنولوجية المتعلقة بمكافحة التصحر وتخفيف آثار الجفاف (المادة 24).

5. The CST is a subsidiary body of the COP established under article 24 of the Convention to provide the COP with information and advice on scientific and technological matters relating to combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought.
5- لجنة العلم والتكنولوجيا هيئة فرعية تابعة لمؤتمر الأطراف أُنشئت بموجب المادة 24 من الاتفاقية لكي تقدم إليه المعلومات والمشورة بشأن المسائل العلمية والتكنولوجية المتعلقة بمكافحة التصحر وتخفيف آثار الجفاف.

4. According to article 24 of the Convention, as a subsidiary body of the Conference of the Parties, the mandate of the CST " is to provide it (the COP) with information and advice on scientific and technological matters relating to combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought " .
4- تنص المادة 24 من الاتفاقية على أن ولاية لجنة العلم والتكنولوجيا، بوصفها هيئة فرعية لمؤتمر الأطراف، هي " أن تقدم إليه (مؤتمر الأطراف) المعلومات والمشورة بشأن المسائل العلمية والتكنولوجية المتعلقة بمكافحة التصحر وتخفيف آثار الجفاف " .

According to article 24 of the Convention, the CST is " ... to provide it (the COP) with information and advice on scientific and technological matters relating to combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought " and " the COP shall decide, at its first session, on the terms of reference of the Committee " .
تنص المادة 24 من الاتفاقية على أن تقدم لجنة العلم والتكنولوجيا " ... (إلى مؤتمر الأطراف) المعلومات والمشورة بشأن المسائل العلمية والتكنولوجية المتعلقة بمكافحة التصحر وتخفيف آثار الجفاف " . و " يبت مؤتمر الأطراف في دورته الأولى في اختصاصات اللجنة " .

(b) Cooperative activities on combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought are encouraged and new linkages are established with institutions dealing with the issues of land degradation, desertification combating, poverty alleviation, rural economics and environmental protection;
(ب) التشجيع على الأنشطة التعاونية المتعلقة بمكافحة التصحر وتخفيف آثار الجفاف واقامة روابط جديدة مع المؤسسات التي تتناول قضايا تدهور الأراضي ومكافحة التصحر وتخفيف حدة الفقر والاقتصادات الريفية وحماية البيئة؛

The secretariat is the central institution under the Convention, established to streamline and coordinate the activities of the various stakeholders involved in the Convention process and to provide assistance to country Parties in implementing their programmes on combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought.
(أ) الأمانة هي المؤسسة المحورية للاتفاقية، وقد أنشئت لترشيد وتنسيق أنشطة مختلف أصحاب المصلحة المشتركين في عملية الاتفاقية ولتقديم المساعدة إلى البلدان الأطراف في تنفيذ برامجها المتعلقة بمكافحة التصحر وتخفيف آثار الجفاف.
