After three days of deliberations, the Meeting adopted the Algiers Plan of Action on the Prevention and Combating of Terrorism in Africa, intended to give a concrete expression to a long commitment and obligation of African countries to promote and enhance their access to appropriate counter-terrorism resources.

Considering also our commitments to regional instruments including the Algiers Plan of Action of the African Union on the Prevention and Combating of Terrorism in Africa, the 1999 OAU Convention on the Prevention and Combating of Terrorism, and the 1998 Arab Convention for the Suppression of Terrorism;

States must be held to their international obligations when carrying out action to eliminate terrorism; in order to fulfil its own commitments, his Government had ratified the Convention on the Prevention and Combating of Terrorism of the Organization of African Unity and was taking the requisite steps to ratify all the international counter-terrorism instruments.

In addition to ratifying 12 of the 16 international legal instruments for combating terrorism and illicit trafficking in narcotics, Mali is a party to the Organization of African Unity Convention on the Prevention and Combating of Terrorism and the various protocols thereto and to the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) guidelines and regulations on money-laundering and the financing of terrorism.
