1. The present report responds to Economic and Social Council decision 1997/322, in which the Council decided to continue its consideration of the agenda item on the implementation of General Assembly resolution 50/227 and requested the Secretary-General to submit a report on the question to the Council for consideration at its substantive session of 1998.

29. Decision 79/18, on the implementation of General Assembly resolution 33/147 on assistance to the Palestinian people, authorized the Administrator to draw up to $3.5 million from the programme reserve during the second half of the 1977-1981 programming period, for the purpose of funding PAPP.

The Special Rapporteur presented to the Human Rights Council at its twentieth session his first annual report focused on the prevention of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance and the report on the implementation of General Assembly resolution 66/143 on the inadmissibility of certain practices that contribute to fuelling contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance.
