The objective of the subprogramme is to provide scientific assessments of the level and trends of demographic variables, such as fertility, the status of women and the family, mortality and morbidity, urbanization, internal and international migration, all of which affect population size, age and sex structure, and rate of growth for most countries and regions of the world.
