20. On 1 May 2011, the discharge requirements for the Wider Caribbean Region Special Area, under annex V to the International Convention on the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, entitled " Regulations for the prevention of pollution by garbage from ships " , took effect.
20 - وفي 1 أيار/مايو 2011، بدأ سريان متطلبات التصريف للمنطقة الخاصة في منطقة البحر الكاريبي الكبرى بموجب المرفق الخامس للاتفاقية الدولية لمنع التلوث الناجم عن السفن المعنون " أنظمة منع التلوث بالقمامة المتولدة من السفن " .

109. annex V to the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973, as modified by the Protocol of 1978 relating thereto (MARPOL 73/78) prohibits the intentional disposal of all plastics, including synthetic ropes and fishing nets, in all marine areas.

Welcomes the decision of the International Maritime Organization to review annex V to the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973, as modified by the Protocol of 1978 relating thereto, to assess its effectiveness in addressing sea-based sources of marine debris, and encourages all relevant organizations and bodies to assist in that process;

The General Assembly invited the International Maritime Organization (IMO), in consultation with relevant organizations and bodies, to review annex V to the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973, as modified by the Protocol of 1978 relating thereto (MARPOL), and to assess its effectiveness in addressing sea-based sources of marine debris (see resolution 60/30, para. 67).
