Although the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea stipulates that " land-locked States shall enjoy freedom of transit through the territory of transit States by all means of transport " [2, para. 125], transit trade is often beset by a wide array of administrative, technical and logistical problems.
ورغم أن اتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لقانون البحار تنص على أن " تتمتع الدول غير الساحلية بحرية المرور العابر عبر أراضي دول المرور بكافة وسائل النقل " [الفقرة 1 من المادة 125]، فإن التجارة العابرة كثيراً ما تعترضها مجموعة كبيرة من المشاكل الإدارية والفنية واللوجستية.

Article 5 of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade establishes that there " shall be freedom of transit through the territory of each contracting party, via the routes most convenient for international transit, for traffic in transit to or from the territory of other contracting parties.
وتنص المادة 5 من الاتفاق العام بشأن التعريفات الجمركية والتجارة على أنه " يجب ضمان حرية المرور العابر عبر أراضي كل طرف متعاقد إلى أراضي الأطراف المتعاقدة الأخرى أو منها، باستخدام المسارات الأكثر ملائمة للمرور العابر الدولي.
