It is in that spirit that the sustained efforts of the United Nations and the leading proponents of human security among its Members are to be commended -- from the initial work of the Commission on Human Security to more recent activities during the past five years.

Following the mandate contained in the World Summit Outcome Document (A/60/1), to " discuss and define the notion of human security in the General Assembly " , the Mexican Government decided to organize a two-day workshop aimed at having an inclusive, representative and open-ended discussion on the concept of Human Security, having as a basis for the discussion, inter alia, the report of the Commission on Human Security to the Secretary General.
