At its first meeting, in decision RC-1/15, the Conference of the Parties requested the secretariat to seek observer status in the Committee on Trade and Environment in Special Session of the World Trade Organization and to inform Parties when that request had been submitted and when it had been granted.

Several delegations stressed the importance of the Convention gaining observer status with the Committee on Trade and Environment in Special Session, saying that it would ensure greater understanding and cooperation on the interplay between trade and environment issues.
70 - وشدد العديد من الوفود على أهمية حصول الاتفاقية على صفة مراقب في اللجنة المعنية بالتجارة والبيئة في دورتها المنعقدة في شكل دورة استثنائية قائلين إنها ستضمن زيادة الفهم والتعاون بشأن العلاقة بين قضايا التجارة والبيئة.

Further to the Secretariat's letter of 17 December 2004 requesting observer status in the Committee on Trade and Environment in Special Session and to the response received by the Secretariat from the Chair of that body (17 January 2005), no progress has been made and therefore the requested observer status has not yet been granted;
(أ) وفيما يتعلق برسالة الأمانة المؤرخة في 17 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2004 والتي يطلب فيها الحصول على صفة المراقب لدى اللجنة المعنية بالتجارة والبيئة في دورة استثنائية، وبعد الاستجابة التي تلقتها الأمانة من رئيس هذه الهيئة (17 كانون الثاني/يناير 2005)، لم يتم إحراز أي تقدم وبالتالي لم تمنح صفة المراقب المطلوبة بعد؛

23. The issues of the relationship between the TRIPS Agreement and the Convention on Biological Diversity and the protection of traditional knowledge and folklore, issues of interest to indigenous peoples, were first raised in the World Trade Organization in the Committee on Trade and Environment in 1995 and later in the TRIPS Council in 1999 under the review of article 27.3 (b).
23 - تعد المسائل المتصلة بالعلاقة بين الاتفاق المتعلق بجوانب حقوق الملكية الفكرية المتصلة بالتجارة (اتفاق تريبس) واتفاقية التنوع البيولوجي وحماية المعارف التقليدية والفلكلور مسائل ذات أهمية بالنسبة للشعوب الأصلية، وقد أثيرت بادئ ذي بدء في منظمة التجارة العالمية ضمن اللجنة المعنية بالتجارة والبيئة في عام 1995 ولاحقا في المجلس المعني باتفاق تربيس عام 1999 في إطار استعراض المادة 27-3 (ب).
