INTRODUCTION In its resolution 1993/49, paragraph 8, the Economic and Social Council requested the Secretary-General to submit to the Commission on Transnational Corporations at its twentieth session a report on the flows of foreign direct investment to least developed countries and other developing countries.

His delegation supported efforts to strengthen the role and capacity of the Commission on Sustainable Development and welcomed the integration of the Commission on Transnational Corporations into the institutional machinery of UNCTAD. It also regarded the establishment of a United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights as a major achievement.

I, sect. A).

At its twentieth session (2-11 May 1994), the Commission on Transnational Corporations approved a draft resolution which was recommended to the Economic and Social Council for adoption, concerning the integration of the Commission on Transnational Corporations into the institutional machinery of UNCTAD.
اعتمدت اللجنة المعنية بالشركات عبر الوطنية، فــي دورتها العشرين )٢-١١ أيار/مايو ٤٩٩١(، مشروع قرار أوصي المجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي باعتماده فيما يتعلـق بدمج اللجنة المعنية بالشركات عبر الوطنية في الجهاز المؤسسي لﻷونكتاد.

The implementation of Council resolution 1994/1, on the integration of the Commission on Transnational Corporations into the institutional machinery of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), would help the United Nations system resolve problems in the area of international investments, strengthen the role of transnational corporations in the field of economic growth and development and avoid duplication of work.
وتنفيذ قرار المجلس ١٩٩٤/١ الذي يتصل بإدماج اللجنة المعنية بالشركات عبر الوطنية في اﻵلية المؤسسية لمؤتمر اﻷمم المتحدة للتجارة والتنمية )اﻷونكتاد(، من شأنه أن )السيدة هومانوفسكا، أوكرانيا( يساعد منظومة اﻷمم المتحدة في حل المشاكل القائمة في مجال الاستثمارات الدولية، وأن يعزز دور الشركات عبر الوطنية في ميدان النمو والتنمية على الصعيد الاقتصادي، وأن يحول دون ازدواجية العمل.

At the 10th meeting, on 9 May 1994, the Chairman of the Commission introduced and orally revised a draft resolution (E/C.10/1994/L.3) entitled " Integration of the Commission on Transnational Corporations into the institutional machinery of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development " .

4. In the same resolution, the Assembly requested the Trade and Development Board to address urgently the question of orienting the programme of work of the new Commission on the basis of recommendations made by the Commission on Transnational Corporations at its twentieth session in 1994.
