The international arrangement on Forests can facilitate cooperation to help realize the potential contribution of forests in conflict prevention, post-conflict resolution and reconstruction, and to help in addressing forest law enforcement and governance.

1. The Economic and Social Council, in paragraph 26 of its resolution 2006/49, requested the United Nations Forum on Forests to conclude and adopt at its seventh session a non-legally binding instrument on all types of forests and, in order to facilitate that work, decided in paragraph 29 of the same resolution that the Forum should convene an open-ended ad hoc expert group to consider the content of the non-legally binding instrument.
1 - طلب المجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي في الفقرة 26 من قراره 49/2006 إلى منتدى الأمم المتحدة المعني بالغابات أن يقوم في دورته السابعة بإبرام صك غير ملزم قانونا بشأن جميع أنواع الغابات واعتماد ذلك الصك، وتيسيرا لهذا العمل، قرر المجلس في الفقرة 29 من القرار ذاته أن يقوم المنتدى بعقد اجتماع لفريق خبراء مخصص مفتوح باب العضوية للنظر في محتوى الصك غير الملزم قانونا.

4. Requests the secretariat of the United Nations Forum on Forests to work with the Non-Governmental Organizations Section of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs to expedite submission to the Non-Governmental Organizations Section Committee of applications for accreditation by major groups, in accordance wit the relevant rules of procedure of the Economic and Social Council;
4 - يطلب إلى أمانة منتدى الأمم المتحدة المعني بالغابات أن يعمل مع قسم المنظمات غير الحكومية التابع لإدارة الشؤون الاقتصادية والاجتماعية للتعجيل بتقديم طلبات الاعتماد المقدمة من المجموعات الرئيسية إلى اللجنة المعنية بالمنظمات غير الحكومية، وفقا للقواعد ذات الصلة من النظام الداخلي للمجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي؛

58. The United Nations Forum on Forests may establish, as necessary, subsidiary or advisory bodies for supporting the implementation of the instrument. That could include, inter alia, ad hoc expert groups, ad hoc working groups, scientific and/or technical advisory bodies and other intersessional bodies. [see previous para. 66]

(k) The United Nations Forum on Forests may recommend, as appropriate, the convening of ad hoc expert groups of limited duration, involving experts from developed and developing countries, for scientific and technical advice as well as to consider mechanisms and strategies for the finance and transfer of environmentally sound technologies, and may encourage country-sponsored initiatives, such as international expert meetings;
(ك) يجوز لمنتدى الأمم المتحدة المعني بالغابات أن يوصي، حسب الاقتضاء، بعقد اجتماعات لأفرقة خبراء مخصصة لمدة محدودة، يشارك فيها خبراء من البلدان المتقدمة النمو والنامية، لتقديم المشورة العلمية والتقنية، فضلا عن النظر في الآليات والاستراتيجيات اللازمة لتمويل التكنولوجيات السليمة بيئيا ونقلها؛ كما يجوز له تشجيع المبادرات التي تكفلها البلدان مثل اجتماعات الخبراء الدوليين؛

53. The United Nations Forum on Forests can play a key role in supporting countries in gaining political support for implementing sustainable forest management at the national, regional and global levels.
53 - ويمكن لمنتدى الأمم المتحدة المعني بالغابات أن يقوم بدور رئيسي في مؤازرة البلدان للحصول على دعم سياسي لتنفيذ الإدارة المستدامة للغابات على كل من الصعيد الوطني والإقليمي والعالمي.

The international arrangement on Forests could also provide access to new funding mechanisms, including more explicit recognition and direct access to funds such as the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

53. Some experts said that a strengthened international arrangement on Forests should improve its institutional structure, perhaps through a strengthened secretariat, and emphasize the Collaborative Partnership on Forests, possibly changing the focus and role of its secretariat.
