57- السيد إلغويتا (شيلي): قال ان من المزمع عقد الملتقى العالمي بشأن التكنولوجيا الأحيائية في اقليم بايو بايو في شيلي، الذي يبلغ عدد سكانه مليوني نسمة تقريبا، والاقتصاد فيه يقوم على الحراجة وصيد الأسماك وانتاج الطاقة.

Lastly, Venezuela supported the strategy paper proposed by Japan and, given Venezuela's rich biodiversity, which constituted an invaluable resource for sustainable development, would participate actively in the Global Biotechnology Forum.
103- وأخيرا، فان فنـزويلا تدعم ورقة الاستراتيجية المقدّمة من اليابان، ونظرا لما تزخر به فنـزويلا من تنوّع أحيائي يشكّل موردا قيّما للتنمية المستدامة، فانها ستشارك بفعالية في الملتقى العالمي بشأن التكنولوجيا الأحيائية.

With regard to the Global Biotechnology Forum (IDB.26/10), biotechnology could contribute to sustainable development and help meet socio-economic needs, particularly in agro-food and processing industries.
5- أما بخصوص الملتقى العالمي بشأن التكنولوجيا الأحيائية (IDB.26/10)، فقال ان بامكان التكنولوجيا الأحيائية أن تسهم في التنمية المستدامة وتساعد على تلبية الاحتياجات الاجتماعية والاقتصادية، وخصوصا في مجالي صناعة الأغذية القائمة على الزراعة والصناعات التجهيزية.

Noting UNIDO's participation in the Monterrey International Conference on Financing for Development and the Johannesburg World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD), as well as the plans for its participation in the Global Biotechnology Forum to be held in Chile in 2003, it urged the Secretariat to follow up those meetings and dovetail them into the necessary technical cooperation activities.
