20. ESCAP provided technical support to the Mekong River Commission in the fields of water and mineral resources and in space applications, and participated in their sessions and donor meetings.
٢٠ - وقدمت اللجنة الاقتصادية والاجتماعية ﻵسيا والمحيط الهادئ الدعم التقني الى لجنة نهر ميكونغ في ميداني الموارد المائية والمعدنية وفي مجال التطبيقات الفضائية، وشاركت في دوراتها واجتماعات المانحين التي عقدتها.

38. At the 5th meeting, on 24 February, the Committee had before it a draft resolution (E/C.7/1994/CRP.1, draft recommendation IV) entitled " Permanent sovereignty over water and mineral resources " .
٣٨ - في الجلسة ٥، المعقودة في ٢٤ شباط/فبراير، كان معروضا على اللجنة مشروع قرار )E/C.7/1994/CRP.1، مشروع التوصية الرابعة( عنوانه " السيادة الدائمة على الموارد المائية والمعدنية " .

21. At its 4th meeting, on 16 May 1996, the Committee adopted a draft resolution entitled " Activities of the United Nations system in the field of water and mineral resources, and inter-agency cooperation " (see chap. I, sect. C, resolution 3/1).
٢١ - اعتمدت اللجنة في جلستها الرابعة، المعقودة في ١٦ أيار/مايو ١٩٩٦، مشروع قرار بعنوان " اﻷنشطة التي تضطلع بها منظومة اﻷمم المتحدة في ميدان الموارد المائية والمعدنية والتعاون المشترك بين الوكالات " )انظر الفصل اﻷول، الفرع جيم، القرار ٣/١(.

Consequently, it assigns various government sectors the duty of preserving these assets, as follows: (i) protecting the environment and combating pollution in any form whatsoever; (ii) preserving forests, plant life and wildlife; (iii) recording, monitoring and overseeing the granting of prospecting and exploration rights for water and mineral resources within their territories.
وبذلك فهو يلقي على عاتق قطاعات حكومية متنوعة واجب الحفاظ على هذه الثروة على النحو التالي: `1` حماية البيئة ومكافحة التلوث بكل أشكاله؛ و`2` الحفاظ على الغابات والحياة النباتية والحياة البرية؛ و`3` تسجيل ورصد ومراقبة عمليات منح حقوق التنقيب عن الموارد المائية والمعدنية واستكشافها في حدود المناطق التابعة لهذه القطاعات.

(ii) Field projects (country, regional and interregional). Thirty-five to 40 technical cooperation projects on water and mineral resources management in developing countries and countries with economies in transition; 20 (ongoing) projects in 10 countries and one regional project on cartography and mapping; 50 projects on energy resources; 170 field projects on development planning and social development.
