ويُعتبر إهمال النساء المسنّات وإساءة معاملتهن وتعرّضهن للعنف، بما في ذلك لبعض الممارسات والأعراف التقليدية الضارة داخل الأسرة إلى جانب معاناة الأرامل، لا سيما في البلدان التي لا يتمتعن فيها بحقوقهن الاقتصادية أو القانونية، من المسائل المثيرة للانشغال بشكل خاص.
