47. The Convention on the Prevention of Marine Pollution by Dumping of Wastes and Other Matter (London Convention, 1972) and the 1996 Protocol to the Convention (London Protocol) set up a legal regime to regulate the dumping of Wastes and Other Matter into the oceans.
47 - ووضعت اتفاقية منع التلوث البحري الناجم عن إغراق النفايات ومواد أخرى (اتفاقية لندن، 1972)، وبروتوكول الاتفاقية لعام 1996 (بروتوكول لندن) نظاماً قانونياً لتنظيم إغراق النفايات والمواد الأخرى في المحيطات.

As a State party not only to UNCLOS but also to the Convention on the Prevention of Marine Pollution by Dumping of Wastes and Other Matter and the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, Japan is committed to their effective implementation and strongly urges every country that has not yet done so to ratify them.

The guidelines for the assessment of Wastes and Other Matter that may be considered for dumping at sea (annex 1 to the London Protocol) include scoping and content provisions for an environmental impact assessment, based on annex 2 of the London Protocol.
