In signing the General Armistice Agreement, Israel thus undertook, as did Jordan, to guarantee freedom of access to the Holy Places.

Nothing is said, however, about the status of the West Bank between the conclusion of the General Armistice Agreement in 1949 and the occupation by Israel in 1967, in spite of the fact that it is a generally known fact that it was placed by Jordan under its sovereignty but that this claim to sovereignty, which was relinquished only in 1988, was recognized by three States only.

The Government of Lebanon has stated to me that it is constrained in its ability to deploy its forces in parts of southern Lebanon by the terms of the Israeli-Lebanese General Armistice Agreement of 23 March 1949, which set limits to the numbers and types of military forces the parties might deploy in the region of the boundary between the two countries.
25 - وقد أفادتني حكومة لبنان بأن قدرتها على نشر قواتها في أجزاء من جنوب لبنان مقيدة باتفاق الهدنة العامة بين إسرائيل ولبنان الموقع في 23 آذار/مارس 1949، الذي يضع حدودا على أعداد وأنواع القوات العسكرية المسموح للطرفين بنشرها في منطقة الحدود بين البلدين.

Subsequently, in the aftermath of the armed conflict of 1948, the 1949 General Armistice Agreement between Jordan and Israel provided in Article VIII for the establishment of a special committee for " the formulation of agreed plans and arrangements for such matters as either Party may submit to it " for the purpose of enlarging the scope of the Agreement and of effecting improvement in its application.
وفيما بعد، وفي أعقاب الصراع المسلح في عام 1948، نُص في المادة الثامنة من اتفاق الهدنة العامة بين الأردن وإسرائيل على إنشاء لجنة خاصة من أجل " صياغة خطط وترتيبات يتفق عليها فيما يخص المسائل التي قد يطرحها عليها أي من الطرفين " وذلك بغرض توسيع نطاق الاتفاق وتحسين تطبيقه.

11. It is not without irony that prominent Israeli jurists were arguing before the 1967 war that the General Armistice agreements were sui generis, were in fact more than mere armistice agreements, could not be changed except with the acceptance of the Security Council.
11 - ومن قبيل المفارقة أن حقوقيين إسرائيليين بارزين كانوا يدفعون قبل حرب عام 1967 بأن اتفاقات الهدنة العامة ذات طبيعة خاصة بها، وأنها في الواقع أكثر من مجرد اتفاقات هدنة، ولا يمكن تغييرها إلا بموافقة مجلس الأمن.

Also reiterates its strong support, as recalled in all its previous relevant resolutions, for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and political independence of Lebanon within its internationally recognized borders, as contemplated by the Israeli-Lebanese General Armistice Agreement of 23 March 1949;
