The General Assembly, in its resolution 39/238 of 18 December 1984, approved the recommendations of the Committee for Programme and Coordination contained in its report on the work of its twenty-fourth session,4 including the recommendation that relevant intergovernmental bodies should review the programme performance report.

The present note is submitted in response to General Assembly decision 58/560, in which the Assembly requested the Joint Inspection Unit to provide further clarification of its recommendations 1, 4, 6, 8 and 9, contained in its report on support costs related to extrabudgetary activities in organizations of the United Nations system (A/57/442).

4. Taking into account the recommendation of the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions contained in its report on UNIFIL (A/55/516, para.12), the General Assembly, by its resolution 55/180 of 19 December 2000, approved the revised budget for UNIFIL as proposed by the Secretary-General without change.

11. In accordance with the recommendation of the Committee for Programme and Coordination contained in its report on its forty-fifth session, the proposed programme budget for the biennium 2008-2009 also contained the overall orientation for each programme presented in the biennial plan.

2. 10. The Advisory Committee reiterates the recommendation it made in its report on the second performance report on the programme budget for the biennium 1996-1997, that future performance reports indicate the amount of unliquidated obligations included in estimated expenditures for the biennium.7
